Made for Mandy Fundraiser - 9/22/07

Huntersville, NC:  Student volunteers from Davidson IB Middle School raised over $1,000 at a “Made for Mandy” bake sale on behalf of Huntersville resident Mandy Ward at The Bradford Store on Saturday, September 22nd . “The bake sale was a tremendous success” said parent Angie Mallonee, who helped coordinate the event.  “It was amazing to see the generosity of the people who purchased baked goods and fun to see the enthusiasm of our volunteers.” Held at The Bradford Store, located on Highway 73 in east Huntersville, the Davidson IB students offered a range of baked goods, jams, jellies and fresh herbs.  Kim Bradford at The Bradford Store contributed cakes and fresh floral bouquets, and local construction workers loaned the students their “SLOW” signs to help guide traffic toward the sale. The fundraiser was to raise money for Hopewell student Mandy Ward, the daughter of Jenny and Tom Ward.  Mandy has been diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis and has been recommended by doctors at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (Ohio) for a life-saving liver transplant.  Friends and neighbors have been working to raise an estimated $50,000 to help with anticipated medical expenses. Davidson IB Middle School is located in Davidson, and promotes community involvement as an integral part of the curriculum. The Bradford Store is a registered historic landmark. Built in the early 1900’s, the store served as a gathering place for members of the Ramah Community, Today the Bradford Store still serves Lake Norman and north Charlotte as a place for folk to gather and share in the wonderful products and produce, most of which grown locally using natural and organic farming methods right in the fields that surround the store.
